The Information:
Originally Composed by Socialist Francis Julius Bellamy (a Baptist Minister, Author, and an Editor). Francis in 1892 published the original Pledge of Allegiance in The Youth's Companion. The reason for the Pledge though wasn’t for a selfless reason to Pledge to the Country, it was to sell tons of flags at the time. And instead of putting your hand on your heart, you were to do the Bellamy Salute (which is mostly known as the Nazi Salute now, but first Francis Bellamy created the Salute just for the Pledge).
As the Original Pledge read: "I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all." -1892 (Original)
Right here we can see that the drama among Atheists wouldn’t be here if we would have kept the Original Pledge. But Slightly we changed it over and over.
"I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all." -1892 to 1923
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all." -1923 to 1924
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all." -1924 to 1954
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." -1954 to PRESENT
Even if we kept it to the 1924 to 1954 Pledge we would have less of a problem among different Religions. The reason why many supported “under God” being in the Pledge though was because all the supporters said it was in Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, but many today dispute this belief.
my outlook:
However you look at it, The Pledge of Allegiance was nothing but a selling tool. We all understand you have the right to say it, or the right not to say it. But what if someone said the Original in Public and also even do the original Bellamy Salute instead of the hand over the heart, this would make many people in the US be down our throats for that. But to me whether you say it or not, or do the salute of not, just remember this Pledge had nothing to do with honor, it had everything to do with money.
So whether you enjoy to say it, or you demand they change it. Why not change it yourself like many did before, that’s why it changed over the years. Because so many people persisted for it to be changed, that the Government just gave in and CHANGED IT Nationally. But for me I’ll just believe the Pledge NEVER ACTUALLY MATTERS, for it wasn’t made for honor: and most people just say it to say it, not to honor our country.
If you don’t say it, it may just make you more American than if you did. Because then you would be fulfilling the plans the Founders had, to resist what you don’t believe in.
